Comprehensive program
The Comprehensive program is designed for associates who are developing the technical knowledge, professional judgement and client capability needed to progress towards becoming a financial adviser. Delivered across four quarters, it provides a clear framework for structured development inside an advice business.
Built for associates progressing towards adviser-level capability
This program is for Financial Advice Associates who are moving beyond the basics and preparing for greater responsibility in the advice process.
Rather than relying on informal learning or ad hoc development, the Comprehensive program gives firms a structured way to train associates over time. It supports progression through a clear quarterly pathway, combining technical learning, professional development and real-world advice capability.
What members will study
The Comprehensive program is delivered across Q1 to Q4 and combines structured learning from CFS and TAL. It includes 123 modules and 108.75 hours of learning in total, giving firms a much more robust framework for developing associates into future advisers.
Q1
Associates begin by strengthening core foundations in professionalism, communication, super, investment basics, advice foundations, life insurance, risk strategy and Professional Year preparation. This quarter is about building the right base and setting expectations early.
Q2
The program then moves into deeper technical and professional training, including super contributions, tax concepts, conditions of release, cyber security, ethics, underwriting, mental wellbeing, claims support and helping clients understand advice more clearly.
Q3
As capability builds, associates develop broader advice understanding through areas such as retirement income streams, age pension, death benefit nominations, claims conversations, estate planning, fee for advice, client engagement and ethical decision-making.
Q4
The final quarter focuses on more advanced and applied topics including transfer balance cap, death benefit taxation, business insurance, succession, vulnerable clients, AFCA considerations, policy ownership and commercial risk issues that advisers need to understand in practice.
Structured development with a clear end goal
The purpose of Comprehensive is not just to give associates more content. It is to help them build toward adviser-level capability in a more deliberate and measurable way.
For firms, that means a clearer development pathway, stronger consistency across training, and a more practical way to prepare associates for progression. For associates, it creates a structured training experience that supports growth in knowledge, confidence and professional readiness.
